Irish Moss Stitch Faux Cardigan

This pattern is provided in written and video format (coming soon), so hopefully it will make sense to everyone.

The pattern has not been tested for different sizes so is provided for free. I have tried to write the pattern so it is adjustable for different body types/sizes. The Irish Moss Stitch Combo measures about 7cm so add length to the body and sleeves by repeating the combo as many times as required.

Schematic and Measurements

I made the sweater with approx. 3cm of negative ease in the bust so it will be form fitting up top but looser on the waist and hips. If you have different proportions to me the sweater may fit you a little differently.

     Knit 3 rounds
Turn back on yourself and PBO 6 stitches at the end of the row

Knit 10 rows of 1:1 rib
Bind off with your favourite bind off. I used a slip stitch.

Finishing the body pieces

Seam the shoulders using Kitchener stitch.
Starting at the top of the ribbing, seam the side seams using Mattress stitch.
Seam the back seam using Mattress stitch.
Bind off the back pieces with your favourite bind off. I used a slip stitch.

Attaching the sleeves

Use Kitchener stitch on the 6 underarm stitches
Match the 3 decreases stitches on either side and seam with a running stitch or Kitchener stitch

This should leave you with the 36 stitches on waste yarn. We will be grafting these stitches from head to side. I used the below stitch/bar ratio but I recommend mapping out the ratio with stitch markers first.
     1:2 (x6)
     1:2 (x4)
     1:3 (x1)
     Repeat ratio 2 and 3, 6 times

The Button Band

If you would prefer a sweater you can seam up the front using mattress stitch. The seam will be more obvious if you are using a lighter coloured yarn.

Pick up 92 stitches along the front edge stitches using a 4 mm knook/needle
Knit 5 rows of 1:1 rib.
Bind off with your favourite bind off. I used a slip stitch.
    Attach the buttons.

The Collar

Pick up neckline stitches using 4mm knook/needles
Knit 5 rows of 1:1 rib
Bind off with your favourite bind off. I used a slip stitch.

Finishing

Weave in your ends. Block as required.
